Upcycling meets traditional craftsmanship.
Sustainable basket bag from Kenya: Discarded wool clothing and sisal are transformed into hand-woven, unique items.
The pretty basket bags are inspired by traditional Kenyan colors and handwoven by weavers of the Kamba tribe in Kenya. The weavers regularly visit the “gikombas” (clothing markets) to select and buy colorful wool sweaters, which are washed at home and unraveled into individual balls of colored wool – and then woven.
These basket bags are made from wool salvaged from second-hand sweaters, woven around local sisal grass. In just four days, these talented women can transform a discarded sweater into a beautiful basket.
- Each piece is unique
- Material: Sisal, recycled wool, leather straps
- 100% compostable

The Basketroom
Beautiful handwoven baskets, bags, and accessories. Their colorful woven collections are handmade by women's cooperatives in Africa.
The Basketroom aims to demonstrate that "fast fashion" doesn't have to be the status quo. While most brands have multiple production cycles per year to keep up with the latest trends, they stand out with only two ordering windows per year.
Material selection and dyes -
They want to ensure that their materials are organic wherever possible and in line with the country they come from.
